NZ Police Firearms Project update

During the June 2018 roadshow (16 venues across NZ) one area that the firearms community wanted improved was how Police communicated. The Arms Act Service Delivery Group advise that they have been making more use of the police website to share information. They acknowledge that there will be some within the firearms community that may not be aware of the site and the messages on it.

Request for Proposal - Contract provision of services to the Game Animal Council

The GAC is seeking proposals from established suppliers who have the capability, experience and infrastructure to deliver the services outlined below, under a delivery and service level agreement with the GAC.

The term of any agreement will end on 30 June 2019. No assurance as to any right of renewal can be provided at this time.

Wilberforce Mathias Possum Control Operation

The Department of Conservation (DOC), as part of its ‘Battle for our Birds’ predator control programme, intends to apply cereal pellet baits containing sodium fluoroacetate (1080) in the Wilberforce Mathias area, located in North Canterbury. This control operation is being undertaken to protect the unique Totara-Cedar forests in the area from possums.

Game Animal Council Vacancies 2018

The Minister of Conservation is seeking nominations for five (5) members of the Game Animal Council.
The Minister will be seeking to appoint members to the Council who will collectively have knowledge and experience relating to game animals (recreational and commercial hunting, deer farming, hunting-related tourism),
farming generally, forestry, kaitiakitanga, nature conservation, and scientific disciplines. Public governance experience is also seen as essential.

Appointments will take effect from 1 December 2018 and will be for a term of up to three years.

Southern Eyre Mountains ‘Battle for our Birds’ Possum Control Operation

Vector Control Services Ltd wishes to advise of its intention to aerially apply cereal baits containing sodium fluoroacetate (1080) in the Southern Eyre Mountains area, located in the Southland region. This pest control operation is being undertaken as part of the Department of Conservation’s Battle for our Birds predator control programme, to protect native species from possums.

It's now very well known that the NZ kea is in trouble, population is declining.

However it's looking like the Wapiti area of Fiordland could be one of its last strong holds. So the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation and the Kea Conservation Trust teamed up to help these birds.

This is to notify you that Vector Control Services has been contracted by TBfree New Zealand to carry out the Clarence Reserve aerial possum control operation using sodium fluoroacetate (1080) cereal pellets. This operation is being undertaken as part of OSPRI’s TBfree programme.

Central Kaweka aerial operation postpones

Information has been released on the status and next steps for the proposed Central Kaweka aerial operation that was discussed in March of this year with the Department of Conservation and representatives from local hunting liaison groups.

The operation was initially planned for commencement during winter of 2018, however in context of a range of TBfree programme operational decisions and priorities, OSPRI now determined this operation will be postponed.

Notification of possum control using aerially applied toxin

POISON WARNING

Landowners and other interested parties are advised that Vector Free Marlborough Limited (VFML) will be commencing aerial application of bait containing the toxin Sodium fluoroacetate (1080) to the Stormy Ridge and Karamea Bluff blocks in the northern Buller, from daylight on Wednesday 2/05/18. The aerial application of non-toxic prefeed bait to these blocks was completed in late March.
